UVa-Wise Storms Back, Takes Three Two-Point Games to Overtake King

Bristol, Tenn. – Falling in the first two games the chances of advancing at a place the program has never won seemed bleak, UVa-Wise did not waive to storm back and take three-straigth two-point games to overtake King College on its home floor. After losing 21-30 and 24-30, the Lady Cavs recorded game wins of 36-34, 32-30 and 15-13 in the deciding game to take three contests that could not be any closer to advance to the NAIA Region XII championships later on Saturday.
The Lady Cavs will now move onto face the winner of Union/Bryan at 3:00 p.m. Saturday. The winner will advance to the NAIA National Championships.
Tasha Viers pounded 28 kills, dug seven balls and had six total blocks. Britney Lawson paced the defense with a career-best 50 digs and served an ace. Sam Puryea assisted on 67 kills, dug 17 balls, downed four kills and had a block assist.
Kristen Salyer added another double-double with 20 digs and 15 kills. Whittney Lane chipped in 13 kills, four block assists and two digs while Maggie Berry contributed 11 kills and 10 total blocks. Cara Hamilton and Leeza Dos Santos both had 12 digs while Ruth Hoover produced three kills and nine digs.
