Lady Cavs Cage Lady Cougars in Three Games

Wise, Va. – After falling in the second game of the season to their opponent, the Lady Cavs caged the Lady Cougars in three-straight games. UVa.-Wise took care of the Mountain State women’s volleyball team, 3-0, by scores of 30-27, 30-25 and 30-26, on a true team effort.

The Lady Cavs have came on of late as they improved to 10-7 on the season to lead into facing the Appalachian Athletic Conference co-leader Union College on the road Thursday night. Mountain State, who defeated its Tuesday night host 3-1 on August 25 th, fell to 8-4 on the year.

Tasha Viers (Abingdon, Va.) paced the kill leaders with 14 kills while totaling 12 blocks. Junior Kristen Salyer (Hiltons, Va.) hit 11 kills, dug eight balls, blocked five attempts and lined three aces. Maggie Berry (Clinchport, Va.) added seven kills and nine blocks. Setter Sam Puryea (Bristol, Tenn.) handed out 40 assists, dug 10 balls, chipped in six kills and had four block assists. Whittney Lane ( Norton, Va.) produced six kills and seven blocks. Cara Hamilton (Gate City, Va.) laced three aces and Britney Lawson (Rye Cove, Va.) dug 24 balls.
