Union Takes Key Volleyball Battle Over UVa-Wise

Wise, Va. – After taking the first game by a 17-30 score, Union scored the final three points of the second game to propel it past UVa-Wise in three straight games. The Lady Bulldogs took that second contest, 29-31, before leading the third game by as many as nine points before completing the sweep over the Lady Cavs, 27-30.
Union keeps its top spot in the Appalachian Athletic Conference with a 12-1 mark while going to 23-7 overall. UVa-Wise falls to 7-3 in the league and 13-9 on the year.
Natasha Viers (Abingdon, Va.) pounded 14 kills to go with five digs and two blocks. Kristen Salyer (Hiltons, Va.) was the lone other Lady Cavs’ player in double figure for kills with 10. Sam Puryea (Bristol, Tenn.) dished out 35 assists and dug 13 attempts as Britney Lawson (Rye Cove, Va.) dug 26 balls.
The Lady Cavs continue their tough week of four home matches in five days on Wednesday. UVa-Wise will entertain Tennessee Wesleyan in a 6:30 p.m. match in the special “Dig for a Cure” night.
