Lexington, Va. – The Lady Cavs earned a split of two Saturday matches in the second day of the Washington & Lee Tournament and finished third in the event. UVa-Wise avenged a loss a week ago with a 3-2 victory over Southern Virginia before falling to Christopher Newport, 3-1, in the team's other match.
UVa-Wise went to 7-6 on the season after the win over Southern Virginia (30-18, 19-30, 31-29, 28-30 and 15-8) and the defeat to Christopher Newport (23-30, 14-30, 30-27, 11-30).
Against Southern Virginia, Kristen Salyer led the team with 18 kills, nine digs, nine blocks and two aces. Whittney Lane added 12 kills and 13 blocks. Sam Puryea handed out 49 set assists, dug seven balls, blocked six attempts and lined two aces. Britney Lawson dug 30 balls and Cara Hamilton 13.
In the Christopher Newport match, Natasha Viers was the lone Lady Cav with double figure kills with 12. Maggie Berry had nine block assists. Lawson had 21 digs and Puryea 23 assists.
UVa-Wise will now be off this week before playing Friday at Bryan College for a 7:00 p.m. match. |
