Pikeville, Ky. – The Lady Cavs inexperience showed through on Tuesday night as the Lady Bears took advantage of 47 unforced errors for the victory. Pikeville was able to take care of the UVa-Wise women’s volleyball by a 3-1 final in games of 15-25, 25-27, 16-25 and 23-25.
UVa-Wise (1-4) will not have much time to rebound as it will host Appalachian Athletic Conference foe Montreat College in the league opener on Wednesday night starting at 6:30 p.m. in Greear Gym.
Freshmen Eleanor Lafoon (Richmond, Va.) and Megan Funk (Fries, Va.) on the night. Lafoon pounded 11 kills and had eight block assists while Funk hit 10 kills to go with two blocks and two digs. Kristen Salyer (Hiltons, Va.) had her own good effort with 13 digs, eight kills and two blocks.
Senior Britney Lawson (Duffield, Va.) saw her first action of the season with 25 digs and an ace. Sam Brummette (Wise, Va.) handed out 27 assists while serving two aces. Mikaela Anders chipped in eight kills.
