Johnson City, Tenn. – Late Thursday afternoon, Science Hill High School’s Kelley Bumgarner became the latest talented women’s volleyball player to pick UVa-Wise for her collegiate program of choice. The setter joins Lady Cavaliers’ Steve Dallman now impressive class of incoming spikers.
Dallman saw his second UVa-Wise squad run off the school record for wins (25-16) along with claiming the program’s first NAIA Region XII title and trip to the NAIA National Championships.
The Johnson City, Tenn. product joins six other incoming freshmen in the fall. The 5-5 setter helped the Toppers volleyball team to a 47-6 record and a fifth place finish in the Tennessee state tournament as well as capturing the 2007 co-Big 9 title before taking the district, regional and substate championships.
Individually, Bumgarner earned Big 9 Setter of the Year and all-state second team status. She also made the all-conference, all-regional and all-northeast Tennessee squads. Kelley was a four-year letter-winner under coach Louise Stallworth’s Science Hill teams.
Bumgarner is the daughter of Keith Bumgarner and Terri Bumgarner. Kelley plans on being an exercise science and athletic training major upon reaching the UVa-Wise campus.
