Emory, Va. – The UVa-Wise volleyball team knew it would go through some growing pains with half the team in their first season. The youth showed on Saturday as Southern Virginia prevailed over UVa-Wise, 3-1 (20-25, 14-25, 27-25 and 21-25) before host Emory & Henry swept the squad, 3-0 (21-25, 14-25 and 13-25).
UVa-Wise (1-3) earned one game against what the Lady Cavs head coach Steve Dallman called the best team of the weekend in Southern Virginia.
In the match, Kristen Salyer downed 12 kills, dug six balls and had one block. Eleanor Lafoon contributed 10 kills, three blocks and a pair of aces. Kelley Bumgarner handed out 22 assists and Ruth Hoover added 14 digs.
