Lady Cavs Roll to 14th Straight Win

WISE, VA - UVa-Wise continued its volleyball dominance Thursday night, grabbing its 14th consecutive match win with a 3-1 (30-21, 27-30, 30-19, 30-26) triumph over Appalachian Athletic Conference rival Milligan (Tenn.) College.

Senior Kendall Rainey served up 50 assists, and Nikki Jessee knocked down 15 kills to help improve the first-place Lady Cavs to 14-2 in the conference and 15-2 overall.

Jessica Cain and Evelyn Woods recorded 14 and 10 kills, respectively. Both players had six blocks. Senior libero Kari Sparks made 34 digs.

Unitl Thursday's match, UVa-Wise had not lost a game through it's current winning streak, recording a school record 40 consecutive game wins. That streak, however, ended when Milligan took the second game by a 30-27 score.

"Forty straight wins are impressive and it's been a great ride," third-year head coach Kim Mathes Moore said. "But I'm happy that we got that monkey off our back. It doesn't matter if we win in three games or five. All that matters is that we win the match."

UVa-Wise returns home to Greear Gymnasium Saturday for a 2 p.m. match with AAC foe Union (Ky.) College. The match will be the last at home for the Lady Cavaliers during the regular season.
