October 26, 2004

WISE, VA - UVa-Wise seniors Kendall Rainey (Glade Spring, Va./Patrick Henry High) and Kari Sparks (Gate City, Va./Gate City High) have been named Appalachian Athletic Conference performers of the week for their respective positions, conference officials announced Tuesday.

Rainey, a setter, recorded 139 assists and 41 digs in three victories for the Cavaliers last week.

Sparks had 79 digs a week ago, helping the first-place Lady Cavaliers keep alive their 15-match winning streak. Sparks, who plays the libero position for UVa-Wise, currently leads the nation with an average of 7.2 digs per game.

The awards, given by the AAC for the week ending Oct. 24, are the fourth conference player of the week honors for Rainey and Sparks this season.
