November 8, 2004
WISE, VA - After about a week of waiting, the UVa-Wise volleyball team finally learned Sunday which team and where they will play in this weekend's Appalachian Athletic Conference tournament.
UVa-Wise finished its regular season last week with a school-record 20 wins and, at 17-3 in the AAC, a share of the conference regular season championship. The conference title is the first in the history of the UVa-Wise volleyball program.
King (Tenn.) College and Brevard (N.C.) College also finished with 17-3 league marks, thus also claiming part of the league title.
As a result of head-to-head competitions between the three squads, King earns the No. 1 seed in the AAC tournament and the right to host the event on its home floor in Bristol Tenn. King also earns an automatic spot in the Region XII tournament to be held Nov. 18-20.
The Lady Cavaliers open the AAC tournament at 12:30 p.m. Friday against No. 6 Bryan (Tenn.) College, a team UVa-Wise has defeated twice already this season.
Both of those matches came during UVa-Wise's school record 15-match winning streak.
The first round of the AAC tournament is single elimination. The format moves to double elimination from the second round up through the championship matches.
