Ratliff and Holbrook named UVa-Wise Volunteers of the Year

Holbrook and Ratliff named UVa-Wise Volunteers of the Year 

Ratliff Holbrook Volunteers of the YearDarrell Holbrook and Donald Ratliff were recently named the 2010 Volunteers of the Year at The University of Virginia’s College at Wise for their outstanding support of and dedication to the College.

UVa-Wise Chancellor David J. Prior presented the awards to Holbrook and Ratliff during the annual Benefactors Celebration on Oct. 15.

Holbrook served as president of the UVa-Wise Alumni Association Board of Directors for 2009-2010, and he has been a member of the board since 2003. A very active alumnus, Holbrook also serves on the association’s Super Raffle Committee, the Miners’ Family Scholarship Committee, Alumni Hall Strategic Planning Committee, and he assists in registration for the Cavalier Alumni $elebration.

He is treasurer of the Highland Cavalier Club and he and his wife, Joy, also serve as host parents. A self-professed lifetime Cavs Fan, Holbrook can count the number of football games he has missed on one hand.

Ratliff serves as a member of the Highland Cavalier Club Board and he helped establish the Highland Cavalier Club Scholarship. Personally and through his work, Ratliff has provided annual support for student scholarships, student life programs, the Highland Cavalier Classic golf tournament, the Cavalier Alumni Invitational basketball tournament and the fall picnic for the football and volleyball teams and the host parents.

He has a keen understanding of the importance of education and what educational access means to the region. Ratliff does all he can tosupport UVa-Wise and its students.
