Campaign Leadership

The story of The University of Virginia’s College at Wise has always been one of dreams . . . and of people who have joined together to make their dreams a reality. What began one cold, snowy night in 1953 was a modest dream: to bring the opportunity for higher education to the children of the coalfields. In the half-century since, this College has become a worthy expression of Thomas Jefferson’s dream for his “academical village” in Charlottesville—that the youth of the Commonwealth would enjoy educational opportunities that are second to none. As our world grows ever more connected and complex, fulfilling that dream is a greater challenge than ever. The same driving passion and unwavering commitment that has brought us so far during our first 50 years will make a success of this, our most ambitious campaign for the future of The University of Virginia’s College at Wise.
