Second annual ‘Chancellor for a Day’ food drive begins Feb. 4
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to hold the top position at The University of Virginia’s College at Wise? One UVa-Wise student will soon have a chance to do just that as part of the second annual “Chancellor for a Day” event.
Hosted by the UVa-Wise chapter of the National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH), the “Chancellor for a Day” event will begin with a food drive during the week of Feb. 4-8. During this week, NRHH members will collect donations of non-perishable food items in the C. Bascom Slemp Student Center atrium from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day. For every food item that a student donates, he or she will receive one entry in the drawing to become “Chancellor for a Day.”
On Feb. 15, the winning student and Chancellor David J. Prior will exchange roles for the day. The student will experience some of the duties of the College’s chief administrator, while Chancellor Prior will attend the winning student’s classes and socialize with students throughout the campus.
“Last year was the first year of the program and it was very successful,” said Toni Davis, president of the UVa-Wise chapter of NRHH. “Everyone involved enjoyed the switch, and more than 400 cans of food were donated to the Pound Food Bank.”
Davis said the goal for this year’s food drive is 750 cans to be delivered to the Pound Food Bank.
