Logo contest underway for FINS research program
The Department of Natural Sciences is sponsoring a logo contest for its undergraduate research program, Fellowship in the Natural Sciences (FINS). A $100 prize will be awarded to the student who submits the winning design.
FINS provides support for students to spend their summer engaged in research under the guidance of a faculty mentor. Research projects can be in any area of the natural sciences, including biology, chemistry, geology, physics, science education or environmental science.
Contest rules:
- Full and part time students are eligible.
- Students may submit no more than two designs.
- Logos may be created free-hand or digitally but must be submitted as a hard copy. Free-hand logos should be photocopied or scanned for submission.
- Logos should be submitted on a clean sheet of 8-1/2” x 11” paper, with the name of the student and contact information on the back. The contest winner will be chosen after classes have ended, so it is important that the student provide an e-mail address, telephone number or mailing address where he or she can be contacted during the summer.
- No element of the College’s current logo may be incorporated in the FINS logo.
- Originals will not be returned.
- Photographs or copyrighted material may not be used in the design.
- No more than three colors should be used.
- Any artwork submitted becomes the property of the College, and we reserve the right to modify designs as needed.
- If no submitted design is deemed acceptable, the competition will be repeated in the fall semester.
Designs should be submitted to Brenda Whitaker in the Science Center by Friday, May 2, at 4 p.m. Her office is located in the loft overlooking the Science Center Atrium.
