UVa-Wise to present holocaust drama ‘I Never Saw Another Butterfly’
 |
| Jade Bolling stars as Raja in the holocaust drama “I Never Saw Another Butterfly,” performed this month at The University of Virginia’s College at Wise. |
The Division of Theater at The University of Virginia’s College at Wise will present “I Never Saw Another Butterfly” at the Theater Center on April 10, 12 and 18 at 8 p.m. and April 20 at 2 p.m.
The play, written by Celeste Raspante, is the story of one of the 15,000 children who passed through Terezin http://www.photo.net/bp/terezin.html , a military garrison set up as a ghetto during World War II and a stopping-off place on the way to the gas chambers in Auschwitz. This sensitive and life-affirming play is based on collected poems and drawings by those children, which were recovered and published in a book by the same name.
Assistant Professor of Theater Michael McNulty will direct the play. The cast includes Jade Bolling, Heather Morgan, Jaime Herman, Page Howard, Matt Carter, Casey Chinault, William Todd, Sandi Woods, Jonah Adkins, Craig Rice and Sam Lovin.
Designers for the play include Jonathon Taylor, technical director and sound, costume and scenic designer; Steven Hensley, assistant scenic designer; Rose Johnston, lighting designer; Amy Bugarski, assistant costume designer; and Emily Witucki, props designer.
Due to construction, the UVa-Wise Division of Theater is temporarily located in the Theater Center across from the Baptist Student Union on Darden Drive.
