UVa-Wise bands to present spring concert and chamber music night
The Department of Visual and Performing Arts at The University of Virginia’s College at Wise will present two nights of music and performance on April 28 and 30.
The UVa-Wise Wind Ensemble and the Highland Winds will present their annual spring concert on Monday, April 28, at J.J. Kelly High School. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the school auditorium.
The division of music will also present its annual Chamber Music Night on Wednesday, April 30, at 7:30 p.m. in the Chapel of All Faiths.
During the spring concert, the Highland Winds will perform works by Grainger, Holst and Bernstein. The Wind Ensemble’s selections include works by Gordon Jacob and contemporary composer Frank Tichelli. Student conductor Tom Padgett will conduct a movement from Jacob’s William Byrd Suite.
The Highland Winds is made up of UVa-Wise students and community members. The Wind Ensemble is composed of UVa-Wise students and music faculty. Richard Galyean, director of bands, will conduct both groups.
The Wise Guys Brass choir, the newly formed Clarinet Choir and the String ensemble will be featured on Chamber Music Night. Students from the dance studio also will perform.
Both concerts are free and open to the public.
