Sigma Zeta inducts 18 new members at UVa-Wise
Eighteen new members were inducted into Alpha Xi chapter of Sigma Zeta during a ceremony on April 23 at 7 p.m. in the Science Center Atrium at The University of Virginia’s College at Wise.
Arved Harding, a UVa-Wise alumnus and former president of the College’s chapter of Alpha Xi, will speak about “Statistically Designed Experiments: Bringing the Sciences and Mathematics Together.”
Harding is an associate statistician at Eastman Chemical Company and the chair of the Northeast Tennessee Section of the American Society for Quality. He is a 1985 graduate of UVa-Wise with a Bachelor of Science in mathematics and earned a Master of Science degree from Virginia Tech in 1988.

New members will receive a certificate and pin at the ceremony. Amanda Meade currently serves as president of Alpha Xi. Faculty advisors are Jacob Somervell and Van Daniel.
To be eligible for membership, students must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 in all math and science courses completed. Alumni of the Alpha Xi chapter of UVa-Wise include physicians, dentists, engineers, scientists, teachers and professionals in other fields.
