Auditions Set for The Fantasticks
Auditions for the musical comedy, The Fantasticks, will be held July 29-30 in the Theatre Building on the campus of The University of Virginia's College at Wise.
Auditions begin at 7 p.m. each evening and will require reading, singing and dancing. No advance preparation is necessary. The cast will begin evening rehearsals on Aug. 1.
Public performances of The Fantasticks are scheduled for Sept. 6-8. The Fantasticks will be directed by Michael McNulty, assistant professor of theatre at UVa-Wise. D. Michael Donathan, professor emeritus of music, is the musical director for the performance.
The Fantasticks, the world's longest-running musical, ended its 41-year off-Broadway run in January. Since its inception, the musical has been staged in more than 12,000 American venues and 80 foreign countries. A funny yet touching story of innocence and knowledge, The Fantasticks was adapted from Edmond Rostand's 1894 play Les Romanesques by then college students Harvey Schmidt and Tom Jones. Try to Remember is the production's much-loved signature song.
