The New Science Center Addition is Now Open
In January 2003, the new science addition opened in the Science Center. The $9.75 million Science Center expansion is called an addition however at 40,131 square feet, the new section is more than double the size of the original structure in terms of classroom and office space. The first floor is home to biology with three teaching labs, four research labs, an instrument room, a tissue culture lab, a stock room and a microbiology prep room. The second floor is devoted to chemistry. It has five teaching labs, two research labs, three instrument rooms and a stock room. Faculty offices are located on both floors, while the first floor has a student common resource area with high-speed Internet connections, desks and tables to study. A brick mural, designed by Suzanne Adams-Ramsey '80, chair of the Department of Visual and Performing Arts, and executed by Johnny Hagerman, artist in residence at General Shale Brick, is located at the northern end of the student resource area.
