Noyce Scholarship Program available at UVa-Wise
Individuals interested in teaching middle or high school science in a rural Appalachian community are encouraged to apply for the Noyce Scholarship Program available at The University of Virginia's College at Wise.
The Noyce Scholarship Program is supported by the National Science Foundation and can provide up to two years of academic scholarship support for juniors, seniors, and graduate students preparing to teach science in small, rural Appalachian communities. Successful applicants receive a loan in the amount of $3,000 per semester for academic/professional work leading toward science teacher preparation and certification. With a year of teaching service in an approved Appalachian community, the loan (principal and interest) is converted to a scholarship. One year of service is required for each year of academic support.
The Noyce Scholarship Program is administered by the Appalachian Rural Systemic Initiative (ARSI). Other participating institutions include Marshall University, Ohio University, University of Kentucky, and University of Tennessee.
More information regarding scholarships including application procedures and support materials can be accessed at the following web site: www.arsi.org/noyce. The deadline for applications is May 15, 2003.
