Second candidate for UVa-Wise chancellorship to visit campus June 23-24

The second of four finalists for the chancellorship of The University of Virginia’s College at Wise will visit the campus on June 23-24.

Lawrence Wayne Markert, provost and vice president for academic affairs at Hollins University, will spend two days in Wise meeting with faculty, staff, students, and members of the UVa-Wise Board. Markert will participate in an open forum with staff at 11 a.m. on June 23 in the Chapel of All Faiths, followed by an open forum with faculty at 1 p.m. in the Chapel, and an open student forum at 2:15 p.m. in the Honor Court Room of the C. Bascom Slemp Student Center. The public is invited to attend the open sessions.

James M. Gott, who chairs the Chancellor Search Committee, has described the four candidates who will be visiting UVa-Wise in June and July as “outstanding” and “tremendously credentialed in their educational backgrounds.”

“All have come up through the ranks from teaching to serve as deans and in the upper levels of administration,” Gott said.
