UVa-Wise
to host Nov. 22 workshop for high school athletes interested
in college athletics
High school athletes interested in learning more about what
it takes to play at the college level are invited to attend
a special workshop at The University of Virginia’s
College at Wise on Monday, Nov. 22.
The workshop, 'If You Want to Play, You Need a Plan' is
intended to provide a variety of information from academic
eligibility standards and athletic recruitment policies
to tips on balancing academics and competitive athletics.
Free and open to all high school athletes, the workshop
begins at 7 p.m. on the fifth floor of the C. Bascom Slemp
Student Center.
Other topics to be discussed include the differences between
play at NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association),
NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics),
and NJCAA (National Junior College Athletic Association)
schools; athletic scholarships; admissions standards; and
the myths and realities of college athletics.
"Student-athletes are an important part of the student
body at UVa-Wise," said Russell Necessary, vice chancellor
for enrollment management. "We hope this workshop will
provide athletes the information the need to make informed
decisions regardless of the college they choose to attend."
The workshop is a community service of the UVa-Wise Office
of Admissions and the UVa-Wise Athletic Department.
Pre-registration is requested for the “If You Want
to Play, You Need a Plan” workshop. For more information,
or to register, call the Office of Admissions at 276-328-0102
or toll-free at 888-282-9324.
