Marching Highland Cavaliers
Band Camp underway at UVa-Wise
Members
of the Marching Highland Cavaliers Band are hitting the right note this week
during a pre-season camp and series of rehearsals, bringing The University
of Virginia’s
College at Wise ever closer to witnessing the debut of its first-ever marching
band.
The Marching Highland Cavaliers
Band Camp will continue through Aug. 17. Rehearsals will be held in Music Center
II.
The premiere of the Marching Highland Cavaliers Band will be featured during the first UVa-Wise home football game, Sept. 2 at 7 p.m. when the Cavs will face off against North Greenville.
A group of at least 30 musicians have already joined the Marching Highland Cavaliers Band for its inaugural season, and the band is expected to have 100 musicians or more within three years. There are still openings in the band and students may audition by contacting Richard Galyean, director of bands.
Membership in the Marching Highland Cavaliers is not limited to UVa-Wise students. Those who are students of Mountain Empire Community College or other community colleges and who can also play a musical instrument are invited to audition. High school students who wish to participate may contact Galyean to audition. Students who perform in the band will receive three hours of fine arts credit at UVa-Wise.
For more information about the Marching Highland Cavaliers Band, contact Richard Galyean, director of bands, at (276) 328-0235, via e-mail at rdg3y@uvawise.edu, or the Office of College Relations at (276) 328-0130.
The only branch of the University of Virginia, UVa-Wise is ranked among the nation's top public liberal arts colleges by U.S. News and World Report. UVa-Wise is home to 1,900 students and offers undergraduate and professional programs in the liberal arts tradition of Thomas Jefferson.
