Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine to visit UVa-Wise Sept. 18
Virginia Governor Timothy M. Kaine and his entire Cabinet will meet on the campus of The University of Virginia’s College at Wise on Monday, Sept. 18. The event, which begins at 9 a.m. in the C. Bascom Slemp Student Center, is open to the public.
During the session, which concludes at 10:45 a.m., presentations will be made by the secretaries of Public Safety, Health & Human Resources and Technology.
The meeting is part of the “Governor’s Cabinet Community Working Days.” The Governor and his Cabinet secretaries will spend the entire day in far Southwest Virginia, with stops in Wise, Norton, Lebanon, Abingdon and Marion. The Governor held the first in a planned series of “Cabinet Community Working Days” in Hampton Roads in August.
At 11 a.m., Governor Kaine will
join UVa-Wise Chancellor David J. Prior, members of the Southwest Virginia
legislative delegation and representatives from Northrop Grumman and the Virginia
Coalfield Economic Development Authority for a major gift announcement and
the official signing of an agreement between the College and Northrop Grumman.
Also on Monday, staff from Virginia’s Department of the Treasury’s Unclaimed Property Division will be available to assist citizens with their search for unclaimed property. This service will be available in the C. Bascom Slemp Student Center from 8:30 a.m. until noon.
