UVa-Wise
to celebrate 50th anniversary with Appalachian Music Festival,
fireworks
The University of Virginia’s College at Wise is celebrating
its 50th anniversary with a free Appalachian Music Festival
and Fabulous Fireworks Extravaganza on Saturday, Oct. 2.
The music begins at 4 p.m. on the Lawn by the Lake. Concessions
will be available.
The Appalachian
Music Festival is part of Alumni-Homecoming Weekend Sept.
30 through Oct. 2. The public is invited to join the College’s
faculty, staff, students and alumni for this historic celebration.
The list of performers,
in order of appearance, includes: Papa Joe Smiddy, The Mount
Rogers Albert Hash Memorial School Band, Ron Short. Dale
Jett, Ras Alan & the Lions, The ETSU Bluegrass Band,
Apartment Number 9, Ed Snodderly, and Larry Cordle and Lonesome
Standard Time.
At 9 p.m., UVa-Wise
will light up the night sky with a Fabulous Fireworks Extravaganza
sponsored by the Town of Wise and City of Norton.
