Three new members have joined The University of Virginia’s College at Wise Board.
In July, the University of Virginia Board of Visitors appointed Roger C. Viers of Wise to serve a new four-year term as a member of the UVa-Wise Board.
A native of Buchanan County, Viers is owner and director of Landmark Financial Services, LLC, in Wise. After graduating from the College in 1964, Viers earned a bachelor’s degree in commerce from the University of Richmond. His service to the College has been extensive, having served on the UVa-Wise Foundation Board, served on the steering committee of the College’s first campaign and co-chaired the 50th Anniversary Coordinating Council. UVa-Wise honored Viers in 2003 as Volunteer of the Year.
In addition to Viers, the College Board appointed two new members to one-year terms. As president of the Alumni Association, Frances Matthews Rose Wall of Abingdon will serve a one-year term on the UVa-Wise Board. Wall is a 1973 graduate of the College.
David Compton of Gate City currently is serving a one-year term as the Board’s student member. A chemistry and pre-medicine major, Compton hopes to attend medical school at the University of Virginia or the University of Tennessee upon his graduation from UVa-Wise in 2008.
