UVa-Wise professor to share Ecuador culture Oct. 26
Members of the community are invited to experience the flavor of Ecuador as Esteban Ponce, assistant professor of Spanish at The University of Virginia’s College at Wise, shares stories, food and more about his home county during International Night on Friday, Oct. 26.
Ponce’s presentation, “Eternal Ecuador,” will begin at 7 p.m. at Tales of the Lonesome Pine Used Books, Music and Craft Gallery in Big Stone Gap. Ponce, his wife Rut Roman, and Silvia Mejia of the College of Saint Rose will talk about the history, literature, art and music of Ecuador. They will also share some traditional Ecuadorian foods and photographs of the South American country.
Earlier in the day, Mejia will present her documentary about Ecuadorian migration processes and will speak on the concept of “Digital Nostalgia” at 1 p.m. at the Chapel of All Faiths at UVa-Wise.
Tales of the Lonesome Pine Used Books is located at 404 Clinton Avenue East, behind the U.S. Post Office, in Big Stone Gap.
