| Law
and Disorder will be one of the featured performers
to provide musical entertainment during Relay for Life.

police officer, Danny "Tuck" Robinson, Ron
Swindall, and Nathan Swindall. |
The
second annual Wise County Relay for Life, an all-night fundraiser
for the American Cancer Society, is set for Friday, Aug.
12 at The University of Virginia’s College at Wise.
The community is invited to participate in the evening’s
events, which include musical entertainment and special
activities for children.
The Relay for Life begins at 5 p.m. with a reception for
cancer survivors. Anyone who has battled cancer is invited
to attend.
Opening ceremonies will be held at 6 p.m. with survivors
of cancer walking the first lap around the campus lake.
Caregivers will join with survivors for the second lap.
Members of the 30 teams participating in Relay for Life
will begin their participation with the third lap. At least
one member from each relay team will continue walking around
the lake until 7 a.m. Saturday.
Several local musicians will provide musical entertainment
throughout the evening. Performers include Law and Disorder,
Jade Bolling and Zack Bates, and Jenny Carter.
At 10 p.m., bagpiper Randy Stanley will play “Amazing
Grace” as luminaries are lit in memory of cancer victims
and in honor of cancer survivors.
Last year, the Wise County Relay for Life raised more than
$47,000 for cancer research and treatment. This year’s
goal is $48,000.
All money raised in Wise County remains in Wise County.
The money will provide various services for cancer patients
and cancer research.
