UVa-Wise to host first meeting of Southwest Virginia Health Facilities Authority Nov. 28
The Southwest Virginia Health Facilities Authority, recently created by the Virginia Legislature, will hold its first meeting at The University of Virginia’s College at Wise on Nov. 28 at 4 p.m.
The new authority will bring together key health and community experts to discuss steps to improve primary health care throughout Southwest Virginia. The City of Norton and Buchanan, Dickenson, Lee, Russell, Scott, Tazewell and Wise counties will be the focus of the authority’s efforts.
UVa-Wise Chancellor David J. Prior, an appointed member of the new authority, will host the first meeting at the Lila Vicars Smith House on the College’s campus.
Virginia Delegate Clarence “Bud” Phillips led the recent effort to appoint the new health authority. Gary Crum, executive director of the Southwest Virginia Graduate Medical Education Consortium (GMEC), will take an active role in staffing the authority’s meetings. GMEC is located on the campus of UVa-Wise.
The first meeting’s agenda includes an introduction of the authority by Delegate Phillips, as well as the election of officers. The meeting is open to the public.
