Teachers invited
to celebrate 50th anniversary at UVa-Wise April 21
Educators across the region who attended The University
of Virginia’s College at Wise are invited to attend
a special 50th anniversary reception on Wednesday, April
21. The event begins at 6 p.m. in the C. Bascom Slemp Student
Center.
“Certainly a large percentage of the teachers in Southwest
Virginia and the surrounding areas were educated at UVa-Wise,”
said Jeff Cantrell, chair of the Department of Education.
“I hope many of our teachers will be able to join
us for this reunion.”
Ron Short, a gifted musician who has been selected to compose
an original musical work about the College’s history,
will provide entertainment.
Richard Davidson, who chaired the Department of Education
for more than two decades, will share some of his favorite
memories.
The event is open to any UVa-Wise graduate who participated
in the College’s teacher education program and their
guests. Please confirm your plans to attend by calling 276-328-0163
or 276-328-0184.
Now celebrating its 50th anniversary, UVa-Wise is ranked
among the nation’s top ten public liberal arts colleges
by U.S. News and World Report. The only branch campus of
the University of Virginia, UVa-Wise is home to 1,700 students
and offers under graduate and professional programs in the
liberal arts tradition of Thomas Jefferson.
