Construction Update

Please be advised that Crockett lot is closed and considered a construction site. Faculty, staff and students are encouraged not to park in this area due to safety issues. Machinery and equipment will be maneuvering through this lot and the entrance area for the next couple of months in an effort to complete this project.

Thank you for your patience in this matter.

ADA Reminder

Please remember that even during ongoing construction, all parking spaces marked for disabled persons and all accessibility walkways for disabled persons must remain clear. This especially includes accessibility curb cuts with provide access to walkways. Thank you for your cooperation.

Gravel drive for construction use only

The gravel entrance/exit onto Darden Drive near the log cabin is for construction use only. Our waiver was not granted for normal campus traffic, and continued non-compliance could cause us to lose the waiver for construction use.

UVa-Wise rededicates Lila Vicars Smith House

Lane Closure

On Tuesday, October 23, 2007 the Exit Lane at the new entrance campus will be closed beginning at approximately 7:00am. Traffic through the main entrance will be two way through the entry side of the entrance. We ask that you use caution when using this entrance and watch for changes in the traffic pattern through the day. Your cooperation and patience with the on-going construction is appreciated.

Science Building lecture hall access rerouted

Due to ongoing construction in the Science Building Renovation project, the science lecture hall may not be accessed via the main lobby. Students, faculty and staff are advised to access the lecture hall via other exterior doors leading directly into the lecture hall.

Walkway re-routed from the McCraray Parking Lot to Cantrell

Due to the installation of a data duct bank and other utility work we will be re-routing the walkway from the McCraray Parking Lot toward Cantrell.  By the Close of Business Today we anticipate that the temporary walkway will be installed surrounded by orange snow fencing.  It is anticipated that this temporary walkway will need to be in place for 4 – 6 weeks.  We are doing this work at this time in order to have a chance for a permanent walking surface to be in place prior to the arrival of winter weather. 

West side of the upper campus commuter parking lot closed

Beginning September 6, the west side of the upper campus commuter parking lot (formerly the tennis courts) will be closed for the remainder of this week and next in order to install temporary classroom spaces to house classes during the Science Building renovation project.  The lot will re-open on the week of September 17th.  We apologize for this inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.

New entrance roadway now open to traffic as project continues

The new campus entrance roadway is now open to traffic. Drivers are encouraged to drive slowly and use caution when accessing the new entrance roadway, as signage is not currently in place to direct traffic. Drivers should always yield to oncoming traffic and consider the entrance roadway a three-way intersection until signage is completed and in place. Also, please note that although the roadway is now open, overall construction on the new entrance project will not be completed until the Crockett Hall renovation project is completed. Drivers are encouraged to use caution during normal operating hours as construction continues near the new entrance.

Drivers encouraged to use Rhododendron Lane detour July 16-18

Due to extensive hammering work July 16-18 for the Campus Entrance project, the current Clinch Valley Drive detour will be limited at times to only one lane or no access. Drivers are encouraged to use Rhododendron Lane (the lane running behind Culbertson Hall and near the picnic area).

West entrance closed, drivers encouraged to use Clinch Valley Drive detour

The west entrance to the campus (leading to Crockett Hall and the C. Bascom Slemp Student Center) is now closed as construction continues in the Campus Entrance project. Drivers are encouraged to use the temporary gravel detour that leads directly from Darden Drive to Clinch Valley Drive. Initial construction of the Campus Entrance is expected to be completed mid-July 2007.

Parking near Crockett Hall closed

To launch the Campus Entrance project and to accommodate the project's contractors, the Crockett Hall parking lot, the "dead-end" road near the Chapel and the eastern portion of the McCraray parking lot are now closed. Faculty, staff and visitors who normally use these lots are now encouraged to park in the open portion of the McCraray parking lot.
