Originally completeted in 1990, the Lila Vicars Smith House serves as the residence of the College chancellor's family. The residence was due a renovation and enlargement to accommodate the large number of special events, dinners and receptions now expected of the Chancellor. Previously the formal dining room seated up to 20 guests, and the deck could seat up to 50 guests, but only when the weather was agreeable.

Now, thanks to a gift from Hunter J. Smith, the recent renovation and addition project has added a pavilion to the residence, which seats 60 guests for formal dinners and allows natural light to pour through the large windows. Included in the project are a new serving area and new deck for indoor and outdoor functions. The renovations will include new triple-hung windows in the front of the structure, new landscaping at the entrance, a revised entry foyer and modifications to the circulation of the house.
