Frequently Asked Questions

If I don't use all my meals in one week, do they carry over to the following week?

Meals do NOT carry over from week to week.  It is important that you select your meal plan based on your academic schedule and desired eating patterns in order to get the greatest value.

What happends to my unused dining points at the end of the semester?

Dining points carry over from the fall to teh spring semester; however, at the end of the spring semester, any unused points are nonrefundable.  Budget your points during the spring semester so you do not have 'extras' at the end of the semester.

Can I treat a guest by using two 'meals' in a meal period?

No, unfortunately, your meal plan is non-tranferable and thus, you may not use more than one of your allowed traditional meals in a give meal period.  If you purchase dining points, however, they can be used to 'treat' a friend in the dining hall or Papa Joe's.

What do I do if my dining points run low?

Each time you make a purchase using your dining points, your balance will be displayed at the register.  If your dining points run low, you may add additional points at any time by going to the Cashier's Office in Smiddy Hall or by calling 276/328-0108.

What is the meal exchange option?

To add greater flexibility to our meal plan program, meals can be exchanged for a cash allowance towards a la carte purchases.  The cash allowance value for lunch (1:15 - 3:30 pm) and dinner (3:30 - 10:00 pm) is $4.25.

Can I change my meal plan once the semester has begun?

Yes!  Because Dining Services realizes that your schedule may change, you have the option of changing your meal plan at any time during the semester.  If you are a residential student, be sure to consider the required meal plans for various halls.

What if I lose my CAVS Card?

Should you lose your CAVS Card, report it immediately to the 3rd floor Slemp Student Center Office or call 276/376-1000.  Your old card will be deactivated and a new one will be issued for a $5.00 fee.
