GMEC covers the cost of travel, food, housing, malpractice insurance, and licensing fees for residents and their families while on rotation with physicians in our service area.
GMEC offers a sliding fee scale of payment to preceptors: $1,000 per month per resident for the first rotation, $1,250 per month per resident for the second rotation, $1,500 per month per resident for the third (and each additional) rotation. On July 1 of each year, payments to all preceptors revert to the $1,000 per month rate. Thus, those who host more than one rotation each year are rewarded for the effort. Preceptors have the choice of a) being reimbursed for the cost of computer equipment, computer software, Internet service and CME; or b) being paid a cash stipend.
To offset revenue losses for training programs while residents are on rural rotations in southwest Virginia, GMEC pays residency programs: - $4,000 per month for PGYIII and above residents or fellows - $2,500 per month for PGYII residents - $1,000 per month for PGYI residents
