Joseph Dibble is a board certified family physician who works in a solo practice associated with Twin County Regional Hospital of Galax, Virginia.

Born January 18, 1950 in Hazard, Kentucky, Dr. Dibble is a citizen of the United States. He was married on March 18, 1972 to Darda Susan Dibble. They have five children Ryan, Shauna, Nova, Jack, and Alan.

Dr. Dibble holds a BA degree awarded in 1971 by the University of South Florida, Tampa, Florida. He earned an MD degree in 1974 from the University of South Florida, Tampa. In 1977, Dibble completed a three year residency in Family Practice at Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg, Florida.

From 1977 to 1993, Dr. Dibble maintained a private family practice in St. Petersburg, Florida. Between 1993 and 1997, he practiced in Valdese, North Carolina. During those years, he held the following positions at one time or another: Director of Eckerd College Health Center, Chief of the Department of Family Practice at Palms of Pasadena Hospital, Chairman of the Professional Practice Committee at Palms of Pasadena Hospital, Vice-Chief of Staff at Palms of Pasadena, Chief Medical Consultant for the Insurex Corporation, Physician Advisor for ICU/PCU Utilization Review and Quality Assurance at Palms of Pasadena Hospital, Governing Board Member at Palms of Pasadena, Nursing Home Liaison Physician for Palms of Pasadena, Medical Director for the National Rehabilitation Management Group for the State of Florida, Executive Committee Member of Associated Physicians of Tampa Bay, Medical Director of Majestic Towers Health Center, Governing Board Member for Valdese General Hospital in Valdese, North Carolina, and Medical Director for College Pines Nursing Center in Valdese, North Carolina.

Dr. Dibble has been with the Hillsville Family Care Center since 1997. His office hours are 8:00 a.m. 6:00 p.m. five days per week. The days of the week he works varies from week to week per the practice schedule. There are 9 exam rooms on the premises of the family care center, along with a medical laboratory of moderate complexity and an emergency treatment room.

Dibble sees from 18-20 patients a day during slow summer months and 25-30 patients a day during busier winter months. About 10% of Dr. Dibble's patients are children under the age of 12 and another 10% are adolescents. He estimates that 80% of his patients are adults, and that half of his adult patients are over the age of 65.

Dr. Dibble maintains courtesy privileges at Twin County Regional Hospital, a 141-bed acute care facility in Galax, Virginia. He does not admit or round on patients in the hospital, which is about 10 miles from Hillsville. Dr. Dibble has no direct call responsibilities and has no call expectations for residents who train in the practice.

Dr. Dibble enjoys most elements of general family practice. He does not practice obstetrics. Given his patient population, much of his practice time is devoted to geriatric medicine. Dr. Dibble's personal interests include reclaiming 48 acres of neglected farmland near Hillsville and renovating a house in North Carolina as a second home for his family.

Residents who train with Dr. Dibble may choose to stay in a number of area motels: Holiday Inn Express, Hampton Inn, Super 8, Knight's Inn, etc. Local citizens may offer room and board in their homes. GMEC can attempt to locate furnished homes or apartments for residents, but we cannot guarantee results because short-term rentals are extremely difficult to secure in rural areas.
