He is married to Mona Raza and the family includes two children, a son Nabeel (b. 2001) and daughter Zoya (b. 2003). Dr. Raza graduated from Mahadevappa Rampure Medical College in Gulbrga, India in 1993. He completed the Roanoke-Salem Psychiatric Medicine Residency Program in 2002. Bluefield is divided by the Virginia/West Virginia border into two municipalities. About 20,000 people live in the area, most of them in West Virginia. The population of Bluefield, Virginia is 5,363 and it lies in the extreme eastern part of Tazewell County. The terrain is mountainous, broken into a lovely confusion of hardwood forests and highland pastures that support small flocks of sheep and larger herds of cattle. Some of the hills look like ancient volcanoes and the southern range resembles the crest of a primordial ocean wave. Bluefield is a pearl set in a landscape of rare and compelling beauty. Once based on coal mining and forestry, the regional economy has grown diverse in recent years. As measured by employment, major elements of the Tazewell County economy are educational, health and social services (22%), retail and wholesale trade (20%), manufacturing (12%), construction (7%), and agriculture, mining, and forestry (7%). U.S. Interstate 77 and U.S. Highway 460/19 intersect in Bluefield. There are several shopping centers in the twin-towns, along with any number of local and franchised restaurants, cinema screens, discount stores, groceries, antique stores, and specialty boutiques. Bluefield is surrounded by the Jefferson National Forest and within a hour’s drive are several attractions: Burke’s Garden, Pocahontas Exhibition Coal Mine, Pipestem Resort, Bluestone State Park, Pinnacle Rook State Park, Camp Creek State Park, and Crab Orchard Museum and Pioneer Park.
