Election Talk for an Election Year

History Department and “Friends of Buck and Stan” to present series on elections

The History Department will offer a series of talks on historical presidential elections during the coming year.  The first presentation on Thursday, April 19th, will be by former UVA-Wise History Professor Brian S. Wills, who will talk about the crucial election of 1860.  Wills' talk is sponsored by UVa-Wise's Appalachian Warfare grant.

Subsequent talks will be held in the fall semester.  Thus far there are presentations planned for the elections of 1800, 1824, 1896, and 1980.  Fall talks will be held on Friday evenings, with a culminating gathering on election night to watch the returns.

“Friends of Buck and Stan” is a group formed to develop endowed scholarships in the names of Stan Willis and Glenn Blackburn and offer support to the History Department, its faculty and students.
