Research Interests
I am interested in the behavioral ecology of small mammals. My research interests include food-hoarding behavior, animal cognition, and social behavior. The majority of my work involves the behavioral and evolutionary ecology of the southern flying squirrel, Glaucomys volans. I have also worked with least chipmunks, golden-mantled ground squirrels, and have collaborated on a project with black-tailed prairie dogs. I love field work but instead often work in semi-natural or laboratory conditions. I strive to address testable hypotheses through ecololgically-relevant experiments. Consequently, I have worked on a wide variety of questions and have used a range of methodological techniques including passive integrated transponders and DNA analyses.
