NURS 200: Introduction to Professional Nursing(2)
Prerequisite: Admission to nursing major
This course is designed to introduce the student to the fundamental principles that are integral to professional nursing. These principles include roles of professional nurses; standards of professional nursing practice; and concepts related to nursing including nursing’s relationship to the liberal arts, therapeutic relationships, the historical development of the profession, and theories of nursing practice.
NURS 301: Fundamentals of Nursing (3)
Prerequisite: NURS 310
Co-requisites: NURS 302 and NURS 303
This course provides the student with the theoretical principles of nursing interventions designed to assist clients in meeting their human needs. The course focuses on the use of the nursing process in the application of knowledge from nursing, including the behavioral, social, and biological sciences and the humanities, to meet acute and chronic unmet human needs of clients.
NURS 302: Fundamentals of Nursing Clinical Laboratory (3)
Prerequisite: NURS 310
Co-requisites: NURS 301, NURS 303
This course is the clinical component of NURS 301: Fundamentals of Nursing, and consists of 126 hours of clinical experience.
NURS 303: Basic Nursing Simulations and Skills Laboratory (1)
Prerequisite: NURS 310
Co-requisites: NURS 301, NURS 302
This course provides the student with the study of nursing therapeutics that serve as the basis for many aspects of nursing care. Nursing care techniques and the evaluation of the outcomes of those techniques for a selected group of health care concepts will be discussed, demonstrated, practiced, and validated in this laboratory course.
NURS 305: Principles of Medication Administration Laboratory (1)
Prerequisite: NURS 310
Co-requisite: NURS 330
This course is designed to prepare students to safely administer medications to clients of all ages and in a variety of clinical settings. medication dosage calculation, techniques of medication administration, and the role of the nurse in medication administration will be discussed, demonstrated, practiced, and validated in this laboratory class.

Pathophysiology and clinical nursing management of selected conditions affecting adults and children.
NURS 313: Health Assessment (2)
Prerequisites: (Pre-licensure) NURS 310; (RN to BSN) Admission to the nursing major
Co-requisite: NURS 315
Knowledge and skills to conduct a basic health assessment including health history and physical examination. Interpretation of normal findings and identification of deviations from normal.
NURS 314: The Professional Role (3)
Prerequisite: Admission to the nursing major

Expanded knowledge about nursing and health care related to differentiated nursing practice, community-based nursing, education about healthy life-styles, and clinical reasoning.
NURS 315: Health Assessment Lab (1)
Prerequisites: (Pre-licensure) NURS 310; (RN to BSN) Admission to the nursing major

This course is the laboratory component of NURS 313: Health Assessment, and consists of 45 hours of laboratory experience.
NURS 316: Health Care Communications (3)
A course intended to improve the communication skills of health care professionals. Three components of communication are the focus of this course: enhancing interpersonal communication skills; developing teaching skills; and health care informatics. Elective.
NURS 318: Nursing Theory (3)

Analysis of selected theoretical approaches and discussion of philosophy and issues related to a variety of concepts and theories.
NURS 325: Nursing Research (3)

NURS 340: Adult Medical-Surgical Nursing (3)

This course is designed to focus on the principles of nursing practice as it relates to adult patients experiencing subacute, acute, and chronic alterations and possible alterations of their human needs related to pathophysiology. The content also includes nursing care of the family experiencing the stressors accompanying the illness of one of its members. The course focuses on using the nursing process in applying knowledge from nursing and other disciplines as a basis for assisting patients so that their human needs are satisfied and wellness is promoted, restored, and maintained.
NURS 341: Adult Medical-Surgical Nursing Clinical Laboratory (3)

NURS 360: Maternal-Newborn Nursing (3)

This course includes the study of nursing care as it relates to families experiencing stressors associated with family planning, pregnancy, childbirth, and caring for the newborn. The content of the course also focuses on specific physiologic changes and pathophysiological disorders of childbearing women, including menarche, menopause, and aging. The course focuses on using the nursing process in applying knowledge from the nursing and other disciplines as a basis for assisting persons in meeting their needs and promoting wellness.

This course focuses on the psychiatric-mental health needs of the individual and family. Biological, psychological, and emotional systems will be emphasized. Development of nursing knowledge and skill for intervention with social-emotional balances and imbalances in the lifespan will be explored. Stress, adaptation, communication, and personality development are emphasized. Behavioral and cognitive concepts, crisis theory, and mental health theories are explored.
