Restructuring at UVa-Wise
On July 1, 2006, Virginia's public higher education institutions entered a new era. Under the Restructured Higher Education Financial and Administrative Operations Act, colleges and universities gained substantial freedom from state control in areas such as tuition and personnel management, if those institutions met state standards and goals. The University of Virginia met the standards for the highest level of autonomy and, as a branch campus of the University, UVa-Wise is included in this designation. The College's restructuring proposal was approved by the UVa-Wise Board at the Board's September 9, 2005 meeting and the University of Virginia Board of Visitors at a special-called meeting on September 24, 2005.
The College's proposal, which covers FY2007-FY2012, is a working document that may undergo changes throughout the term of the plan. The College's proposal specifically addresses the goals of the Commonwealth of Virginia as stated in the legislation and as discussed in preliminary meetings with state leaders.
ACCOUNTABILITY:
The Restructuring legislation requires strict accountability, through Institutional Performance Measures. To view the College's Institutional Performance Measures on SCHEV's web site, click here.
