Decisions such as whether or not to work during college or what to do after graduation are not always easy. Whether you are choosing a major, considering graduate or professional schools, or you are ready to look for part- or full-time employment, Career Services has resources to assist you.
Internships, part-time jobs, and career fairs throughout Virginia are also available to students and alumni of the College. We can provide you with information about these as well as a variety of other programs that we offer here on campus.
UVa-Wise Career Services offers students a wide variety of personal and online resources. From one-on-one and group information sessions to career fairs and campus interviews to an in-house resource library, we have what you need to make informed decisions every step of the way in planning your career or graduate studies. All students, freshmen to seniors, find appropriate information for their current step on the career and/or graduate school planning ladder from UVa-Wise Career Services. Stop in or contact us today to develop your own plan.
Employers find numerous opportunities for their businesses at UVa-Wise. Annual career fairs and programs like Advice & A Slice (see the Programs & Events link at left) provide employers with valuable time to share details of their organization and its offerings with UVa-Wise students. On campus interviews for internships and full-/part-time employment opportunities are also available during campus career fairs or at separately-scheduled times. Give us a call today to talk about what Career Services can do for your organization. Click here to learn more about the difference between an internship and a volunteer position.
UVa-Wise alumni are always welcome to take advantage of the many opportunities provided by Career Services. Need help updating your resume and cover letter? Want to look at job listings for a potential new opportunity? Want to discuss a new career altogether? Career Services is just a phone call or email away for the UVa-Wise alumnus.
Employers and graduate/professional school admissions committees expect applicants to keep appointments and be on time for them. Being late, or not showing up at all, suggests that you don’t care about your interviewer’s time. Timeliness is simply good business etiquette and it's part of being a consummate professional. Career Services has instituted a policy to help develop the professional skills of being on time and keeping appointments:
Appointment No-Show/Same-Day Cancellation Policy for Students and Alumni:
You are expected to be on time for a scheduled appointment.
Arrival later than 15 minutes will be considered a missed appointment.
To cancel an appointment, call 276-376-1005 or visit the Center for Student Development.
Cancellations should be made at least 24 hours prior to the appointment, if possible, so Career Services can offer your appointment block to another individual.
If you fail to follow these guidelines twice in a semester, you will not be permitted to schedule an appointment with Career Services for the remainder of the semester. You may submit career development inquiries via email to firstname.lastname@example.org until your appointment privileges are reinstated (the beginning of the next semester).
