Olinger Homers in Opening Day Loss

BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - - Union College erased a six-run deficit in game one to outlast UVa-Wise 9-8 in extra innings before scoring five first inning runs of game two to claim a 6-1 darkness shortened victory in the finale to sweep a doubleheader at Jerry Carey Stadium.  The pair of games were the first for UVa-Wise this season, coach Hank Banner's squad had missed its first eight games due to snow.

Men's Tennis Drop Road Match At Lees-McRae

BANNER ELK, N.C. – Host Lees-McRae College posted a 9-0 non-conference men's tennis victory over UVa-Wise on Sunday. The Bobcats (1-6) did not lose a set in singles action and won all three doubles matches against the Cavaliers (0-2).

BANNER ELK, N.C. – The UVa-Wise women's tennis team traveled to Banner Elk, North Carolina Sunday to take on Lees-McRae College.  The Bobcats did not lose a set against the Cavaliers.

Baseball Opens Season at Union on Sunday

WISE - - Following an inaugural Mountain East Conference campaign that saw his team post a 16-29 overall record and a 13-24 mark in league play, coach Hank Banner's Highland Cavaliers hope experience will lead to better results in 2015.  The team has been picked to finish 10 in the league in a preseason poll conducted by the league's coaches after placing ninth in 2014.

Men's Tennis Falls Short in Season Opener

BELMONT, N.C. – Belmont Abbey College did not lose a set to UVa-Wise in men's tennis action on Saturday as they claimed a 9-0 win. Andrii Rutnytskyi had the strongest showing of the day for the Cavaliers as he lost 6-0, 7-5 in number one singles to Conner McMann.

Women's Lacrosse Drops Inaugural Contest

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. - - History was made Saturday afternoon as UVa-Wise competed in its first ever women's lacrosse game at Young Harris College.  Rachel Cole scored the first goal in program history with 13:46 to play in the opening period in an 18-3 defeat.

Poor Shooting Cavaliers Falter to Mountain Lions on Senior Day

WISE - -  Concord University used an 11-0 run to break a 34-34 tie mid-way through the second half to post a 65-48 win over UVa-Wise at the Prior Center Saturday.  The win secured the eighth seed in next week's Mountain East Conference Tournament for the Mountain Lions and secured a season-series sweep of the Cavaliers.

Snow Forces Schedule Changes

WISE - - Winter weather has forced more schedule changes in the athletic department at UVa-Wise.  Three sports have altered their schedule for this weekend, including moving the home opener for both the softball and baseball team.

Game Day Central - UVa-Wise vs. Concord

Storylines – Concord University gameConcord University is coming off of a non-conference 83-57 victory over Davis & Elkins College entering Saturday's game against UVa-Wise.  In that game, the Mountain Lions had three players finish in double figures. Concord was led by  Rob Reed who finished with a game-high 19 points. Aaron Miller added 14 points, Paul Byrd finished with 10 points and six assists, while Terry Hopewell added 11 rebounds and four steals. The Mountain Lions shot 42.9 percent from the floor and 46.7 percent from beyond the arc against the Senators.  On the season, Miller is scoring 18.4 points per game and pulling down 3.4 rebounds a game to lead Concord, while Mike Boyd and Rob Reed are averaging 13.3  points each per game. The Mountain Lions are scoring 81.5 points per game, while allowing 75.2 from opponents.

Cavalier Women Host Concord for Senior Day

Saturday will mark the final regular season game in the career of Katie Jo Dockery.  Dockery will be honored along with the lone senior on the men's team, Tyler Maggard in between the two games.  Dockery has started in each game over the last two seasons and has mae 144 3-pointers in her four-year career.  The Oakwood, Virginia native has been near perfect from the free throw line as a senior.  Entering Saturday she has missed just five foul shots and is shooting 86.1 percent from the charity stripe.  Dockery is an education major with a concentration in mathematics, upon graduation this May she plans to continue to stay involved with the game of basketball.

Men's Tennis Picked Sixth in Preseason MEC Poll

WISE, Va. – The UVa-Wise men's tennis team has been selected to finish sixth in the preseason coaches' poll released by the Mountain East Conference on Thursday. West Virginia Wesleyan was tabbed as the preseason favorite.

Women's Lacrosse Begins on Wednesday

WISE -- Heading into its inaugural season, the UVa-Wise women's lacrosse team has been picked to finish fourth in the first ever Preseason Mountain East Conference Poll.  By becoming the sixth member of the league, the MEC will conduct a championship for the first time in 2015.

Cavalier Women Visit Shepherd in Final Road Game of the Season

WISE - - With two games left to play, Shepherd sits one game out of first place and in a tie for second place in the Mountain East Conference standings.  The Rams enter winners of five of their last six games, including a 66-52 win over Concord University on Saturday.  Shepherd has used a balanced scoring attack to surge to the upper tier of the MEC.  The Rams have five players averaging at least nine points a contest.  Coach Jenna Eckleberry's team ranks second in the league in fewest turnovers at 14.6 per game.

Storylines – Shepherd University gameShepherd University is coming off of a 62-53 loss to Concord University entering Monday's game against UVa-Wise. In that game, the Rams hadthree players finish in double figures. Shepherd was led by Austin Cunningham who finished with a team-high 19 points, three assists and twosteals. Ryan McTavish added 10 points and seven rebounds, while Steffen Davis also finished with 10 points. The Rams shot 32.7 percent from thefloor and went 11-11 from the free throw line against the Mountain Lions. On the season, Morgan McDonald is scoring 15.5 points per game andpulling down 7.2 rebounds a game to lead Shepherd, while Austin Cunningham is averaging 13.9 points and 4.3 assists per game. The Rams arescoring 77.5 points per game, while allowing 78.7 from opponents.
