WISE - - Five UVa-Wise softball players have been named scholar athletes by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association. Sarah Wiltshire, Christina Ziemba, Allyssa Zebrowski, Kristina Romualdo, Charity Lawson, and Rachel Hawks all were named to the team for the performance on the field and in the classroom.
PINEVILLE, Ky. – The UVa-Wise men's golf team traveled to Pineville, Kentucky to compete in the Bulldog Fall Invitational this week. The Cavaliers finished fourth with an overall score of 322. Junior Blake Blizard led UVa-Wise with a second place finish in the tournament with a score of 71. Day two of the event was cancelled due to rain.

Shepherd enters the game undefeated having defeated its opponent by an average of 34.8 points a game. The Rams enter ranked ninth in the latest AFCA Coaches Poll and have never lost a Mountain East Conference game. Known for its defense, Shepherd has lived up to its billing through the first half of 2014. In five games, opponents have scored just 42 points for an 8.4 points per game average. The two schools share three common opponents, Shepherd defeated those opponents by an average of 31 points while UVa-Wise was defeated by the opponents by an average of 14.3 points per contest.
ATHENS, W.Va. - - UVa-Wise won its third consecutive Mountain East Conference women's tennis match on Saturday with a 9-0 victory at Concord. Junetta Nuckles won her 10th straight singles match and improved to 5-0 in singles play against MEC opponents while Rose Bennett improved to 4-0 in MEC singles play with a 6-1, 6-0 win.
The Cavaliers put three among the top ten Division II finishers to claim 2nd place in the Division II group at the Hagan Stone Classic race.
Improved results from the lower end of the team scoring order helped put the Cavalier women into another second place finish this season, this time in the Division II group at the Hagan Stone Classic race.
WISE - - Visiting Notre Dame College outscored UVa-Wise 27-7 in the second quarter en route to a 41-10 win at Carl Smith Stadium on Saturday. The victory was the fifth consecutive on the road for the Falcons who accumulated 497 yards of total offense.
GLENVILLE, W.Va. - - UVa-Wise won its second Mountain East Conference match of the week with a 3-0 (25-11, 25-13, 25-13) win over host Glenville State College on Friday. Erin Anderson led the Cavaliers by posting her second consecutive double digit kill performance as she led all players with 10.
WISE - - UVa-Wise ran its home winning streak to four with a 3-2 (26-24, 18-25, 25-16, 17-25, 15-11) Mountain East Conference win over Concord University on Tuesday. Erin Anderson delivered a season-high 15 kills in the victory for UVa-Wise while Karley turned in a double-double with 24 kills and 17 digs.
CLEVELAND, OHIO – The UVa-Wise men's golf team traveled to Cleveland, Ohio to compete in the MEC Fall Classic this week. The Cavaliers finished 11th with an overall score of 689 in the tournament. Freshman Cody Large led UVa-Wise with a 23rd place finish with a two-day score of 164. West Liberty University took home the title with a team score of 615.
BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. - - For the second time in as many seasons Shaquon Wilkins took home the individual title at the 6K men's cross country meet hosted by the University of Charleston last Saturday. The sophomore was recognized for his accomplishment on Tuesday by the Mountain East Conference by being named Runner of the Week.
Storylines – the Notre Dame GameBoth teams enter the game coming off a loss. UVa-Wise was defeated 49-15 by NCAA FCS Wofford last week while Notre Dame lost its first game of the season 28-14 to the University of Charleston. The schools share three common opponents in Charleston, Urbana, and West Virginia Wesleyan. The visiting Falcons posted a 2-1 mark against the three schools and outscored the trio 89-85. The Cavaliers went 0-3 against the three schools and were outscored 87-34. The game will feature two of the premier receivers in the Mountain East Conference as Notre Dame's Mitchell Shegos leads the league in receptions with 28 and receiving yards at 361. UVa-Wise's Terrence Younger enters the contest with 24 catches and 300 receiving yards. Last year, Notre Dame won a shootout in South Euclid, Ohio as the Falcons scored 59 points and totatled 418 yards of total offense and scored on their first five possessions of the game. Saturday's game will begin a stretch of playing home every other week for the Cavaliers. UVa-Wise does not play back-to-back home games at all in 2014
SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Playing back-to-back days did not seem to bother the UVa-Wise women's tennis team as they took a 7-2 Mountain East Conference victory over Shepherd University on Sunday. After today's play the Cavaliers improve to 5-5 overall and 3-2 in MEC action.
FAIRMONT, W.Va. – Visiting UVa-Wise (4-6, 2-2 MEC) claimed an 8-1 Mountain East Conference women's tennis win over Fairmont State University (2-5, 1-3 MEC) in Fairmont, West Virginia on Saturday.
SPARTANBURG, S.C. - - Host Wofford College used a 21-point first quarter and held off a third quarter rally by UVa-Wise to post a 49-15 victory at Gibbs Stadium Saturday night. The NCAA FCS Terriers ran the ball 44 times for 267 yards but, the Cavaliers limited Lorenzo Long to 14 yards. Long had entered the game as Wofford's leading rusher.
The UVa Wise men held off a solid challenge by host Charleston, WV to win first place in today's 6k race.
