WISE - - UVa-Wise sophomore linebacker Zack Blair has been named Second-Team All-Atlantic Region for his on field performance during the 2014 season. Blair tied a single-school record for tackles for loss with 26.5 as he led the Mountain East Conference in the category.
BRISTOL, TENN. – King University shot 54.8 percent from the field and forced 22 turnovers as the Tornado claimed an 85-45 non-conference victory over UVa-Wise on Monday.

Lyle is averaging 16.8 points, 2.25 assists, and 4.0 rebounds per game through the first four games. Lyle has made a team-high 14 3-pointers, he is shooting 40 percent from beyond the arc and is adding 88.2 percent from the line. As a team, the Tornado are averaging 78 points per game and have already made a combined 47, 3-pointers. Overall, King has outscored opponents by 69 points beyond the arc. Most recently, King scored an 86-75 win over Pfeiffer, Lyle scored a game-high 22 points in the victory as he made all seven attempts at the foul line.
PIKEVILLE, Ky. - - Khalilah Quigley and Kelah Eldridge each scored 20 points as host University of Pikeville stopped a three-game losing streak to UVa-Wise with a 93-70 win at the Eastern Kentucky Expo Center on Saturday. The Bears controlled the paint in the victory by scoring 58 points inside and winning the battle of the boards 51-32.
Storylines – The UPike GameSaturday's game will pit two teams who enter with momentum. The Cavaliers have won back-to-back games to start league play 2-0 for the first time since 2005-2006. The Bears are 6-2 and are coming off a 91-79 win at Alice Lloyd. UPike has been led by Khalilah Quigley who is averaging 15.5 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 4.8 assists a game. Most recently she scored 24 points at Alice Lloyd, boosted by 16 made free throws. In the early going, the Bears have shot the ball well; led by Shekinah Gibson's 57.1 shooting percentage from the floor, UPike shoots 45.7 percent as a team.
WISE - - Head Coach Meghan Dennehy recently announced the early signing of seven future Cavalier lacrosse players. The group of seven, comprised of two defenders, three midfielders and two attackers, hail from four states and promise to add skill and talent to the current roster.
SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio - - Host Notre Dame College opened the second half on a 15-0 run en route to an 80-65 Mountain East Conference win over UVa-Wise on Monday. The win was the second consecutive for the Falcons who improve to 2-0 in MEC play.
SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – Boosted by a 16-6 run to close the first half, UVa-Wise scored a 78-71 Mountain East Conference victory over Notre Dame College on Monday. The victory was the second consecutive MEC win for the Cavaliers who are 2-0 in league play for the first time since 2005-2006.
Storylines - - The Notre Dame GameMonday's game will be a rematch of last year's opening round game of the Mountain East Conference Tournament. Both teams enter 1-0 in league play after posting victories on Saturday. The Falcons secured a 78-61 victory over Concord as Kelsey Miller turned in 11 points and 14 rebounds. Martha Nagbe scored 17 points and grabbed seven boards while Lauren Langerderfer netted a game-high 18 points.
About UVa-WiseUVa-Wise is looking to hault a two game losing streak after coming off a 103-68 setback to Urbana University. Sophomore Brian Sydnor has posted back-to-back double-doubles and posted a career-high 18 points and 11 rebounds against the Blue Knights. Senior Tyler Maggard had one of his more prolific 3-point shooting games of his career at Urbana. The Dryden, Virginia native sank five 3-pointers and to score 15 points. The Cavaliers will be looking to get more consistent play. In its most recent outing, UVa-Wise fell behind 23-7 at Urbana and never recovered. Through three games, UVa-Wise is allowing 100.3 points per game while scoring 77.3 points a contest. This will be coach Blake Mellinger's squad fourth of five straight games away from the Prior Center to open the season. UVa-Wise will visit local rival King on December 1 for its next game following the Thanksgiving Holiday.
URBANA, OHIO –Speed and aggressiveness helped Urbana jump out to a 19-5 lead and never look back en route to their first MEC victory, scoring a 103-68 victory over UVa-Wise on Saturday.
URBANA, Ohio - - UVa-Wise limited Urbana University to just 11 made field goals and 23.9 percent shooting as coach Kristin Kunzman's team posted a 51-39 win in the Mountain East Conference opener for both schools on Saturday.
Storylines – Urbana University GameIn only the third game of the season, Mountain East Conference play begins. The Blue Knights recently ended a 33-game losing streak against California University of Pennsylvania on Saturday, and are still looking for their first MEC win in program history. Urbana lost 96-62 at Indiana University-Pennsylvania before defeating the Fighting Scots at home. The Blue Knights were picked 12th in the MEC Preseason Poll conducted by the leagues's coaches. Rodney Clark Jr. has led Urbana in the early going. He leads the team in points scored, 18.5 ppg, and finished 13-15 from the line. Ben Merritt has also played well, most recently turning in a double-double against California (Pa.) when he scored 10 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.
About UVa-WiseJunior college transfer Blair Harding has been a spark plug in the UVa-Wise offense. The 5-9 guard is averaging 19 points per game in the early going while shooting 55 percent from the floor, 55.6 percent from beyond the arc, and 91.7 percent from the foul line. Sophomore guard Taylor Sandidge is the only other Cavalier to average double figures, the Waynesboro, Virginia native is averaging 14 points a contest while also handing out 3.5 assists per game. Saturday's game is the third of five straight away from the Prior Center to open the season for coach Kristin Kunzman's team. Last year, UVa-Wise posted a 6-10 mark in games outside of Wise.
WISE - - Sophomore Karley Allen has been named Daktronics First-Team Atlantic Region outside hitter. A Lanexa, Virginia native, Allen led the Mountain East Conference in kills/set at 4.19 while finishing with 394 total kills. Her 394 kills are the third most in any single-season in UVa-Wise history.
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – UVa-Wise traveled to Johnson City, Tennesee Tuesday night to take on Division I host East Tennessee State. This game was the first meeting between the two schools since 2006. As was the case eight years, ago, the Division I Buccaneers put on an offensive display as five players scored double figures to race past the Cavaliers 111-66.
WISE - - Sophomore linebacker Zack Blair's record tying season did not go unnoticed. The Front Royal, Virginia product registered 95 tackles and tied the single-season record for tackles for loss at UVa-Wise with 26.5 en route to First-Team All-MEC honors. Teammate Terrence Younger earned Second-Team All-MEC while Randy Kumah, Trent Martin, and Jeff Parker earned honorable mention accolades.
Storylines – East Tennessee State gameAfter playing two regular season games, UVa-Wise will play an exhibition contest at ETSU on Tuesday. ETSU officially rejoined the Southern Conference this year, after spending the past nine seasons as members of the Atlantic Sun Conference. The Buccaneers were picked third in the SoCon Preseason Poll conducted by the league's coaches. This will be the first meeting since 2006 when ETSU beat the Cavaliers 90-43. The Buccaneers are coming off a 90-76 loss against Valpo. Senior Jalen Riley led the Bucs Friday night with a game-high 27 points.
MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - - Sixth ranked Edinboro University lived up to its billing at the season opening Atlantic Region Challenge. The Fighting Scots completed the challenge with 78-65 win over UVa-Wise on Sunday to go 2-0 in the event.
ETTRICK, Va. – After winning in double overtime on opening night, UVa-Wise fell in the second game of the season, one day later, to Virginia State University 92-56 in the Trojan Tip-Off Classic.
