Storylines – East Tennessee State gameAfter playing two regular season games, UVa-Wise will play an exhibition contest at ETSU on Tuesday. ETSU officially rejoined the Southern Conference this year, after spending the past nine seasons as members of the Atlantic Sun Conference. The Buccaneers were picked third in the SoCon Preseason Poll conducted by the league's coaches. This will be the first meeting since 2006 when ETSU beat the Cavaliers 90-43. The Buccaneers are coming off a 90-76 loss against Valpo. Senior Jalen Riley led the Bucs Friday night with a game-high 27 points.
MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - - Sixth ranked Edinboro University lived up to its billing at the season opening Atlantic Region Challenge. The Fighting Scots completed the challenge with 78-65 win over UVa-Wise on Sunday to go 2-0 in the event.

Millersville's Carly Gallagher led all players with 27 points on 9-17 shooting. Gallagher would make a foul shot with 10 seconds to play to extend her teams advantage to four, ending any chance UVa-Wise had of a comeback.
WISE - - Trent Martin booted an 18-yard field goal on the final play of Senior Day 2014 to send UVa-Wise's nine seniors out victorious, 24-21, over Fairmont State on Saturday. Martin's game-winning field goal was aided by a 31-yard run by Carlton Griffith on the drive and a nine-catch 142-yard three-touchdown day by junior wide receiver Terrence Younger. Sophomore linebacker Zack Blair highlighted his season with three stops behind the line of scrimmage to put him at 26.5 for the year, tying the single-season school record.

Second-year coach Blake Mellinger enters this season after having a full off season to implement his plans on both the offensive and defensive end of the floor. The former Cavalier forward has hired a pair of new assistants in Nathan Edick and Drew Absher to help the team implement a full-court man-to-man defense and an up-tempo offense.

The former Skyline High School product is third in the league with 87 tackles and leads the conference in tackles for loss with 23.5. The 23.5 stops for loss are the second most in a single-season in UVa-Wise history. Blair needs three tackles for loss to equal the number Shane Kilgore posted in the 1996 season. Freshman running back Carlton Griffith is getting stronger as the season winds to a close. Griffith has carried the ball a combined 88 times in the last three games and has rushed for 100 yards or more in each contest. Last week, the Mt. Vernon High School product ran the ball a season-high 32 times for 105 yards and a touchdown.

Seniors Brittni Altmann, Veronica Sanchez and Ashley Hooven all played a key role in Saturday's victory as they aided the Cavaliers to the school's first winning season since 2007.
