WISE – The UVa-Wise Athletic Department joined together last night in the David J. Prior Convocation Center for their second annual "shoebox packing party." This marks the fifth consecutive year student-athletes and staff have donated shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child, which is a project sponsored by Samaritan's Purse.
About UVa-WiseSophomore linebacker Zack Blair continues to rank among the MEC leaders in tackles and tackles for loss. The former Skyline High School product is third in the league with 79 tackles and leads the conference in tackles for loss with 22.5. The 22.5 stops for loss are the second most in a single-season in UVa-Wise history. West Liberty University was tabbed as the preseason favorite, the Hilltoppers received eight of the 12 first place votes to rank slightly ahead of Fairmont State University, who received three first place votes. Wheeling Jesuit University, who is selected fourth in the poll, received the only other first place nod.

WISE - - Number 15 Concord University scored 10 points in the final nine minutes to post a 30-13 Mountain East Conference victory over UVa-Wise at Carl Smith Stadium on Saturday. Coach Garin Justice's Mountain Lions rushed for 205 yards in the victory, led by Jamal Petty who gained 125 yards on 24 carries.
INSTITUTE, W.Va. – The UVa-Wise volleyball team traveled to Institute, West Virginia on Saturday for MEC action against West Virginia State University. The Yellow Jackets took it to five sets, but eventually defeated the Cavaliers 3-2 (25-22, 22-25, 25-18, 20-25, 15-7).
CHARLESTON, W.Va. - - Charleston avenged a 3-1 loss to UVa-Wise earlier this month with a 3-0 (25-17, 25-20, 25-21) win over the Cavaliers Friday evening. The victorious Golden Eagles had three players finish with double digit digs, led by Payton Logan's 17.
WISE-- The Gray Team started out with a 3-0 lead entering game three by virtue of their victories in game one and game two, however they only needed one of those runs with the pitching performances turned in by a combination of sophomore Alex Javins (Covington, VA), senior RW Payne (Spotsylvania, VA), and sophomore Nathan Hatmaker (Harrogate, TN). Javins got the start on the mound for the Gray Team, he tossed 4.2 innings, striking out three and allowing no runs, on one hit, and one walk. Senior Payne, took over next throwing 1.2 innings allowing just one hit. Hatmaker closed out the game allowing no runs and no hits.
STORYLINES – THE CONCORD GAMEUVa-Wise enters the game coming off its first win of 2014, a 16-13 win at West Virginia State. The Highland Cavaliers had their strongest rushing performance of the season with 279 rushing yards. Freshman Carlton Griffith, 111 yards, and sophomore Ty Ryans, 92 yards, led the rushing attack. On defense, seniors Nehemiah Jones and Jeremiah Cooke each had an interception in the victory. Jones returned his interception for a touchdown. Concord enters as the top scoring offense in the Mountain East Conference. The Mountain Lions are the lone undefeated team in the MEC and are averaging 48.4 points per game. Tailback Calvinaugh Jones has already surpassed 1,000 yards on the season and ranks second in the MEC in rushing. Through the air, quarterback Brian Novak averages 269.5 yards passing per game and leads the MEC in pass efficency.
WISE - - Kendall Rainey, Randy Hippeard and Ra'Shad Morgan will become the three newest members of the UVa-Wise Athletic Hall of Fame this Saturday when the trio is inducted at halftime of the football game against Concord University. With the induction of these three former-student athletes, a total of 48 past student-athletes, coaches, administrators, and contributors will be members of the exclusive club that held its first induction ceremony in 1998.
ATHENS, W.Va. - - The UVa-Wise volleyball traveled to Athens, West Virginia on Tuesday for MEC action against Concord University. The Mountain Lions took advantage of 26 attack errors to defeat the Cavaliers 3-0 (26, 24, 26-24, 27-25).
WISE - - In game two of the Red Vs. Gray Fall Baseball World Series, the visiting Gray Team jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning and held the Red Team scoreless with a strong team pitching performance to win 2-0.
WISE--In the bottom of the seventh inning with the bases loaded and two outs, freshman Matt Wright drove in freshman Brett Yates to give the Gray Team a 5-4 walk off victory in the Red and Gray World Series on Thursday.
The UVa Wise women finished 4th of 5 teams at the Wingate Bulldog Stampede. Regionally ranked Wingate easily gained 1st place, followed in 2nd by a very strong Mount Olive team.

The victorious Cavaliers rushed for a season-high 279 yards in the victory led by freshman Carlton Griffith's 30 carry 111 yard performance.
WISE, Va. – The number 11 ranked Wheeling Jesuit volleyball team traveled to Wise, Virginia on Friday to take on UVa-Wise. The Cardinals posted a 3-0 (25-14, 25-15, 25-8) victory over the Cavaliers in Mountain East Conference action. Haley Kindall finished with a match-high 13 kills, while Andrea Thobe finished with a match-high 38 assists and Makenzie Ripley collected 20 digs for the Cardinals (26-3, 11-0 MEC).
BRISTOL, Tenn. - - Host King University posted a 3-0 (25-22, 25-16, 25-17) victory over UVa-Wise in non-conference volleyball action on Wednesday. The victorious Tornado were led by Summer Kremer who posted a double-double with 11 kills and 11 digs while teammate Olivia Underwood tallied 32 assists.
Storylines – The West Virginia State GameUVa-Wise won its first ever Mountain East Conference game against West Virginia State in Wise, a year ago. The Cavaliers entered that contest winless at 0-7. Coach Dewey Lusk's squad will look to repeat last year's performance on Saturday as the team once again faces the Yellow Jackets in search of the first win of the season. West Virginia State enters on a two-game losing streak.
MILLIGAN, Tenn. - - UVa-Wise won its fifth consecutive match with a 3-0 (25-15, 25-12, 25-22) victory over Milligan College at the Steve Lacy Fieldhouse on Monday. Recent Mountain East Conference Player of the Week honoree Karley Allen led all players with 15 kills while teammate Brittni Altmann collected a match-high 14 digs in the win.
