Norfolk State Runs By UVa-Wise

NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State University shot 53.8 percent from the field and limited UVa-Wise to 32.8 percent shooting as the Spartans ran away with an 88-49 exhibition victory over the Cavaliers at Joseph Echols Hall on Monday.

Harding Scores 33 in 80-64 Win at West Virginia Tech

MONTGOMERY, W.Va. - - UVa-Wise hit a season-high 14 3-pointers, eight of which came from Blair Harding as the Cavaliers posted an 80-64 victory over West Virginia Tech at the Basil Center on Saturday.  Harding hit five of her eight 3-pointers in the first half as she finished with a career-high 33 points.

Game Day Central -- Cavalier Women Battle with Golden Bears on Saturday

Storylines – The West Virginia Tech GameFormer Mid-South Conference foe West Virginia Tech enters the game 5-6 and on a three-game losing streak.  The Golden Bears most recently suffered a 91-74 loss to Point Park on Wednesday.  Tech is led by 5-3 Nia Nolan is who averaging 18.4 points per game and has scored 20 or more points in four games this season.  This will be the first meeting between the two schools since the 2011-12 season when the Cavaliers scored a sweep of the Golden Bears.  UVa-Wise won 96-87 in Montgomery that season.

Volleyball Adds Two Signees

WISE - - Head Coach Kristen Salyer announced the signing of two future Cavaliers in Ciara Kain and Eustaica Smith.  Both outside hitters, the pair will join a team that posted a 14-14 record in 2014.

Pioneers Hand Cavalier Women First MEC Loss

GLENVILLE, W.Va. - - Glenville State overcame career days by Kayla Carey and Katie Jo Dockery to post a 94-81 victory over UVa-Wise at the Waco Center on Saturday.  Keyanna Tate scored 30 points to lead the way for the Pioneers who forced 30 Cavalier turnovers in improving to 2-2 in the Mountain East Conference.

UVa-Wise Tangles With Glenville State On Saturday

STORYLINES – THE GLENVILLE STATE GAMEDefending Mountain East Conference regular season and tournament champion Glenville State enters the game just 1-3 overall and 1-2 in MEC action. Most recently, the Pioneers suffered a 104-96 defeat to Concord on Thursday. It was the second time in four games that Glenville State has allowed 100 or more points. Despite their struggle on defense, the Pioneers enter as the MEC's top-ranked offense, posting 89.2 points per contest. Senior Keyanna Tate leads the charge for Glenville State as she ranks fifth in the league in scoring at 16.8 points per contest. Tate is also in the top ten in rebounding as she ranks seventh with 9.5 rebounds a game.

STORYLINES – THE GLENVILLE STATE GAMEThe Pioneers enter 3-0 in the Mountain East Conference and are tied for first place with West Liberty University. Glenville State is led by Donte Morales who is scoring 19.6 points per game to rank seventh in the MEC. The senior from Virginia Beach, Va. is also grabbing 6.4 boards a game to rank 12th in the MEC. Most recently, the Pioneers claimed an 83-81 overtime win over Concord on Thursday. In that contest, Kade Kager connected on five 3-pointers to score a team-high 19 points while Brett Morris added 17 points and Morales chipped in 16. As a team, Glenville State is making 12.29 3-pointers a game to rank second in the MEC. Overall, the Pioneers are scoring 80.7 points a night while allowing 77 points. The team is in its first season playing in the Waco Center which opened on campus prior to the start of the 2014-15 season.

UVa-Wise Welcomes W. Va. Wesleyan for Home Opener

Storylines – West Virginia Wesleyan College gameThe Bobcats are led by junior Chris Dewberry and senior Tanner McGrew, and W. Va. Wesleyan is off to a 1-5 start. Dewberry is averaging 14.3 points,2.2 assists, and 1.8 rebounds per game through the first six games, meanwhile McGrew is averaging 9.5 points and 9.0 rebounds per game. Dewberryhas made a team-high 17 3-pointers, he is shooting 39.5 percent from beyond the arc and is adding 92.9 percent from the line. As a team, the Bobcatsare averaging 57.7 points per game and have already made a combined 38, 3-pointers. Overall, W. Va. Wesleyan is averaging 70.1 percent from thefree throw line. Most recently, the Bobcats suffered a 71-49 loss against Lake Erie, McGrew scored a team-high 12 points in the loss, collected sixrebounds and went 4-5 from the line.

About UVa-WiseUVa-Wise had its two game-winning streak snapped on Saturday at the University of Pikeville when the Bears claimed a 93-70 victory.  Overall, UVa-Wise went 2-3 on its season opening five-game road trip and started 2-0 in league play for the first time since the 2005-06 season. Junior Blair Harding is averaging a team-high 17.4 points per game while also leading the team in rebounding at five per contest. Her points per game average ranks third in the MEC while her 90.5 shooting percentage from the foul line ranks third in the conference.  In two league games, UVa-Wise has cranked up its defense; opponents are scoring a league-worst 55 points per game in MEC play against the Cavaliers while making a league-low 30.3 percent of their shot attempts.

Zack Blair Named Second-Team Atlantic Region

WISE - - UVa-Wise sophomore linebacker Zack Blair has been named Second-Team All-Atlantic Region for his on field performance during the 2014 season.  Blair tied a single-school record for tackles for loss with 26.5 as he led the Mountain East Conference in the category.

Lyle is averaging 16.8 points, 2.25 assists, and 4.0 rebounds per game through the first four games. Lyle has made a team-high 14  3-pointers, he is shooting 40 percent from beyond the arc and is adding 88.2 percent from the line. As a team, the Tornado are averaging 78 points per game and have already made a combined 47, 3-pointers.  Overall, King has outscored opponents by 69 points beyond the arc.  Most recently, King scored an 86-75 win over Pfeiffer, Lyle scored a game-high 22 points in the victory as he made all seven attempts at the foul line.

UPike Stops UVa-Wise Winning Streak

PIKEVILLE, Ky. - - Khalilah Quigley and Kelah Eldridge each scored 20 points as host University of Pikeville stopped a three-game losing streak to UVa-Wise with a 93-70 win at the Eastern Kentucky Expo Center on Saturday.  The Bears controlled the paint in the victory by scoring 58 points inside and winning the battle of the boards 51-32.

Storylines – The UPike GameSaturday's game will pit two teams who enter with momentum.  The Cavaliers have won back-to-back games to start league play 2-0 for the first time since 2005-2006.  The Bears are 6-2 and are coming off a 91-79 win at Alice Lloyd. UPike has been led by Khalilah Quigley who is averaging 15.5 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 4.8 assists a game. Most recently she scored 24 points at Alice Lloyd, boosted by 16 made free throws. In the early going, the Bears have shot the ball well; led by Shekinah Gibson's 57.1 shooting percentage from the floor, UPike shoots 45.7 percent as a team.

Women's Lacrosse Announces Early Signees

WISE - - Head Coach Meghan Dennehy recently announced the early signing of seven future Cavalier lacrosse players.  The group of seven, comprised of two defenders, three midfielders and two attackers, hail from four states and promise to add skill and talent to the current roster.

Second Half Too Much to Overcome for Cavalier Men

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – Boosted by a 16-6 run to close the first half, UVa-Wise scored a 78-71 Mountain East Conference victory over Notre Dame College on Monday. The victory was the second consecutive MEC win for the Cavaliers who are 2-0 in league play for the first time since 2005-2006.
