Clubs & Organizations
UVa-Wise has more than 50 active student clubs and organizations. Student clubs and organizations are a vital component of campus life at The University of Virginia's College at Wise. Co-curricular involvement leads to stronger school spirit and enhanced leadership development — not to mention a happier, well-rounded student body. Here you will find information on how to form your own student organization, how to join an existing club or organization, policies and procedures & the Student Organization Handbook, and forms that are essential to the success of a club or organization. UVa-Wise has a strong history of student involvement and the development of new clubs and organizations on campus. In general, a new organization has to have a minimum of 5 student members, an advisor, an organization constitution and then be approved by the Student Government Association. Students who wish to start a club or organization should contact the Assistant Director of Student Activities & Recreation to schedule an appointment.The Assistant Director of Student Activities & Recreation will help student leaders develop their organization's constitution and will guide them through the approval process. Get involved! Studies show that students who are actively involved in campus life succeed in college. Clubs and organizations provide excellent leadership opportunities to students and enrich the undergraduate experience. Students interested in joining an existing club or organization at UVa-Wise should contact that organization's president or advisor, or meet with the Assistant Director of Student Activities. Each club and organization is unique and has its own membership requirements, fees, meeting times, etc. See the Club & Organization Directory below for president and advisor contact information.

The Club and Organization Directory contains the most up to date contact information for clubs and organizations on campus. The directory is updated as officer and advisor information changes and as new student organizations are approved by the SGA. CLUB & ORGANIZATION HANDBOOK [2014-15]
The Student Organization Handbook has all of the information needed for any student organization's officers, members, and/or advisor. The Student Organization Handbook details policies and procedures for clubs and organizations at the University of Virginia's College at Wise. All clubs and organizations should be familiar with these policies.
Clubs and organizations operate much like a business. The forms directory provides electronic copies of all forms that clubs and organizations should complete for activities, fundraisers and events. Please see the Club & Organization Handbook for more information about event requirements and approval.
Event Planning Form (general) - clubs and organizations hosting events on or off campus should complete the event planning form, obtain all required signatures, and submit to the Assistant Director of Student Activities at least 1 week prior to the event date.
Event Planning Form (alcohol) - clubs and organizations hosting events on or off campus where the use of alcohol shall be present should complete this event planning form, obtain all required signatures, and submit to the Assistant Director of Student Activities at least 1 week prior to the event date.
Fundraising Request Form - clubs and organizations must seek approval for all fundraisers, whether on or off campus, prior to hosting the event. Completed fundraising forms should be submitted to the Assistant Director of Student Activities at least 2 weeks prior to the event date.
Request to Start an Organization Form - students seeking to start a club or organization should complete this form and submit, along with final draft copy of the group's constitution, to the Assistant Director of Student Activities.
Requests for SGA Funds Allocation (web form) - student organizations may seek funds from the Student Government Association for upcoming activities, events, supplies, conferences, etc. Please note that the overall process takes at least 3 weeks, so plan accordingly.
Student Organization Registration Form (web form) - clubs and organizations must register with the Office of Student Activities at the beginning of the fall and spring semester in order to maintain active status with UVa-Wise and eligibility to receive funds from the Student Government Association. Completed forms should be submitted to the Assistant Director of Student Activities within 2 weeks of the start of each semester, or whenever changes occur. Please also submit updated constitutions to Mikaela Logan.
