Safe Zone is a group of faculty and staff members at UVa-Wise who agree to be emphatic and informed about gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender issues on campus. Faculty and staff who display the Safe Zone logo in their offices and/or on their syllabi welcome conversations with any students who have concerns or questions regarding the GLBT population. In our effort to support our student's LGBTA Society in their recently created endeavor we are organizing several events that will be held throughout the semester starting March 16th at the University of Virginia's College at Wise. These weekly events include faculty lectures, students papers and forums.
If you would like to discuss gender issues thought history, art, cultures and religions you are most welcome to join a small and friendly audience very much interested in what you have to say. Counseling Services, a unit of the Center for Student Development in Cantrell Hall, provides short-term counseling that focuses on addressing students’ personal concerns that may hinder current and/or future learning and personal development. Students seek counseling for a variety of reasons which may include, but are not limited to, stress; depression; anxiety; relationship issues; family issues; roommate conflict; grief and loss; LGBT issues; and personal growth.
