CALL FOR PAPERS
The Office of Surface Mining and The University of Virginia’s College at Wise are co-sponsoring a conference focusing on education and undergraduate research concerning the Appalachian landscape. The conference will be held on October 26 and 27 at The University of Virginia’s College at Wise.
Papers are solicited on undergraduate research that focus on landscape-related issues across the Appalachian region, from Maine to Alabama, and address the following topics:
- Wetlands and other surface water systems
- Endangered species and biodiversity
- Ground water systems
- Land use effects and reclamation
- GIS and remote sensing applications to landscape studies
- Rural planning
- Other closely-related research
Those who would like to present a paper should submit an abstract of 300 words or less prior to Friday, September 29, 2006, @ 5 p.m. EST. The abstract should include author(s) name, affiliation, mailing address, and current email address and phone number of the corresponding author. Abstracts should address the study objective and provide a summary of results. Email abstracts to wetlands@uvawise.edu. Authors will be notified of abstract status by October 6, 2006.
